Julia Pyper is Senior Writer for Greentech Media where she covers business developments in clean energy technology. Originally from a horse farm outside of Toronto, Ontario, she now lives and works in Washington D.C. In 2011, she began reporting for E&E Publishing, ClimateWire and has covered a wide range of technology and climate change issues over the last several years, from landmark federal fuel economy regulations and the development of highly efficient vehicles to Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts. Some of her recent work has been published in The New York Times and Scientific American.
An avid traveler with a passion for international affairs, Julia has pitched and carried out several reporting trips across North America and the globe. This spring, she traveled to Germany as a participant in the International Transport Forum Media Travel Programme where she wrote on the development of electric aircraft and the health impacts from transportation emissions. She has also reported on renewable energy and desalination projects in Israel, resilient electricity grids in Greece and the struggle of island nations to survive sea level rise in the Maldives.
Julia received her undergraduate degree from McGill University in Montreal and her Master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York. She has written for the McGill Daily, The Columbia Journalism Review and the World Policy Journal. Julia has also interned for human rights magazine The Upstream Journal, the Canadian women’s magazine LOULOU and CBS News, “60 Minutes.”
In her spare time Julia volunteers with N Street Village, a housing and services center for homeless women, and is an active member of the National Press Club where she helps organize events and edit the work of interns at Street Sense. She continues to ride horses from time to time, is a big fan of biking and likes to plunk around on the guitar. A big foodie, there’s no food or drink she won’t try.
